Making decisions in early pregnancy about what type of maternity care is best for you can be confusing. There are so many different options and it is not always clear what impact these choices have on your pregnancy care and your experience of labour and birth. Do you choose a public hospital, a midwifery model of care with a private midwife or a group practice. Have you been offered shared care with your GP? If you have private health insurance you may have been offered a referral to a private obstetrician with the option to birth at a private hospital? What does a doula do and do you need one? Do you know what impact these options have on your care during pregnancy or you birth experience? What about childbirth education? Should you go to the hospital classes or an independent workshop? Hypnobirthing, calmbirth, active birth, do you know the difference?
